Ever since OPEC was formed, America had a very negative view on them. This is because America could no longer negotiate cheaper oil prices with individual countries, instead USA had to approach a whole bunch of countries and beg for cheaper oil. American ties
with OPEC worsened when the 1973 oil embargo occurred. Another problem was when Iran stopped selling oil to USA.The result of these tensions was the Iran Iraq War during 1980-1988; the Gulf War during 1990-1991 when Iraq invaded Kuwait; and 2003-2011 Iraq War, when America toppled Saddam Hussein's Government.
